🏛️ A Brief History of Bodrum from Ancient Times to Today

Bodrum’s history begins with the ancient city of Halicarnassus. Dating back to the 7th century BC, this city was one of the most important centers of the Carian civilization.

Halicarnassus reached its peak in the 4th century BC, becoming famous worldwide for the Mausoleum built by King Mausolus—the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. This monumental tomb is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Today, you can see the remains of this historic structure at the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Additionally, the Bodrum Castle, built by the Knights of St. John and now a symbol of the city, offers a peaceful stroll under the shadow of history.
